Koh Samed

One hundred and eighty kilometres south east of Krung Thep (a little over two hours on a bus) is the small island of Koh Samed. It's one of the quieter islands in Thailand, when compared to the gulf islands and very popular amongst Thais. The crossing is thirty minutes and beach bungalows start at about ten dollars a night.
